Position Description

Plans and organizes the activities of the assigned engineering group(s). Leads the development of new Product Engineering, Research and Development,  and/or manufacturing technologies, process / continuous improvement initiatives and cost reduction programs for new and existing programs.  Provides guidance to group objectives and new concepts.

Job Responsibilities

  1. Leads product research, design and development for assigned area
  2. Acts as the prime liaison with other departments
  3. Promotes the New Product Development process and ensures consistent use
  4. Maintains knowledge of regulatory requirements
  5. Manages customer relations regarding part and product design, manufacturing and quality control issues.  May also develop supplier relationships and contribute to supplier identification and selection.
  6. Oversees the reporting on project status, budget tracking, customer satisfaction and other staff activities
  7. Directs the spending of development initiatives to support the budget for assigned area(s)
  8. Supports engineering systems used to ensure quality product design
  9. Approves strategic business decisions related to product safety initiatives, annual strategic/situational planning, long-term planning and supplier relationship agreements
  10. Manages the work of groups of employees (leads through subordinate managers)
  11. Performs other duties as assigned

Job Skills Requirements

  • Comprehensive knowledge of engineering, testing and manufacturing processes related to product
  • Advanced understanding of data collection, automation and analysis processes
  • Proven ability to effectively solve problems with diverse groups of people
  • Strong interpersonal, written communication and problem solving skills to effectively interface with engineers, managers and customers
  • Advanced leadership and planning skills as well as the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously
  • Strong project management, supervisory and team building skills
  • Fluent in English and primary language used in area of responsibility and/or location

Education

Bachelor's Degree in Engineering or related field, or equivalent education and experience

Experience Requirements

  • Minimum ten years of engineering experience
  • Three years of management experience preferred
  • MBA or advanced degree preferred

Physical & Environmental Requirements

Domestic and/or international travel as required up to 10%
