Battery Product Safety and Compliance Engineer

Position Description

Plans and performs a variety of moderately complex engineering assignments to promote the safe and compliant use of lithium ion batteries and battery powered products; ensures compliance with domestic and international regulatory requirements and adoption of industry standards.  Ensures products have been reviewed, tested and assessed against compliance with global industry standards, international product compliance requirements, and product safety best practices. Evaluates progress and results of projects. Recommends changes in design, procedures or objectives as necessary. 

Job Responsibilities

  1. Performs safety and compliance evaluations during design and prior to production to ensure compliance with applicable regulations and standards
  2. Participates in the development of strategies and risk assessments to meet compliance standards and regulations and creates process documentation when applicable
  3. Reviews and integrates messages and content in label design, communication reviews, technical publications, marketing displays and operating manuals
  4. Provides guidance based upon research of existing, and changes to, global compliance standards and regulations and reports findings
  5. Participates in the development of industry standards and discussions within industry associations and regulatory committees
  6. Performs product incident investigations
  7. Certifies  battery equipment to meet relevant standards, and completes routine compliance reports to government agencies
  8. Performs other duties as assigned

Job Skills Requirements

  • Fundamental knowledge of regulations and industry standards
  • Familiarity with the design, control and incorporation of compliance strategies
  • Fundamental knowledge of outdoor power equipment
  • Strong planning, organizational, problem solving and decision making skills
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Fluent in English and primary language used in area of responsibility and/or location

Education

Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering or Electrical Engineering

Experience Requirements

  • Minimum of three years of experience in a related field preferred
