Manager Commodity

Position Description

Oversees all activities associated with the purchase of assigned commodities and materials across all businesses. Develops,leads and executes supplier negotiations. Executes cost reduction projects and collaborates with suppliers to deliver innovation and value added engineering.

Job Responsibilities

  1. Executes approved commodity purchase strategies, with appropriate agreements ensuring continuity of supply and proper risk protection

  2. Monitors commodity markets, tracks general market conditions and develops recommendations for assigned commodity strategies; presents recommendations to Senior Directors

  3. Negotiates, creates and manages long term contracts and supplier partnerships and supply agreements ensuring uninterrupted supply, highest quality and total lowest cost

  4. Monitors the economic performance of the supplier category as well as the performance of key suppliers within the commodity

  5. Conducts major initiatives such as supply base reduction and early supplier involvement

  6. Executes sourcing strategies and continuous improvement efforts within the supplier operation

  7. Provides high level interface between suppliers and internal customers to resolve any issues and provides problem escalation or resolution

  8. Provides the organization with a technical understanding of the relevant commodity and industry

  9. Performs full range of managerial responsibilities which may include but not be limited to: interviewing, hiring, coaching and developing employees; planning, assigning and directing work; EEO/AA; performance management; department budget

  10. Performs other duties as assigned

Job Skills Requirements

  • Expert knowledge within a broad range of commodities

  • Ability to solve issues through critical and creative thinking

  • Proven ability to develop negotiation strategies and lead supplier negotiation events

  • Demonstrated sourcing success in an extended enterprise environment Ability to manage and motivate suppliers and key constituent groups

  • Highly developed analytical and communication skills

  • Ability to motivate, guide, mentor, supervise and review work of assigned employees

  • Fluent in English and primary language used in area of responsibility and/or location

  • Ability to work in Excel and Powerpoint

Education

Bachelor's Degree in Supply Chain Management or related field, or equivalent education and experience

Experience Requirements

  • Minimum of seven years of progressively responsible experience in sourcing or related field in a high volume manufacturing environment

  • Some International sourcing experience, preferred

  • Experience using Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) systems such as SAP, Oracle, JD Edwards or Microsoft Dynamics, preferred

Physical & Environmental Requirements

Domestic and/or International travel as required up to 30%
