Your primary goal as a Mechanical Design Engineer Intern will be to provide valuable support to one or more designated business functions. You will be exposed to and actively participate in projects across various functional areas, allowing you to broaden your skillset and gain hands-on experience. 

 

This internship will provide you with the opportunity to expand and enhance your foundational knowledge, complementing your academic studies. Throughout the internship, you will engage and interact with supervisors, team members, project leaders, and other business functions, fostering collaboration and communication skills. #LI-DNP

 

  • Timeline: Summer 2026 - 12 weeks (late May - early to mid August)
  • Hours per week: 40 hours per week
  • Pay: dependent upon year in school
  • Location: onsite at our headquarters campus in Wauwatosa, WI (no housing stipend or relocation provided)

 

You will do this by:

  • Under supervision, performing simple, routine, and repetitive designs using standard procedures, tools, materials, machines, equipment and software
  • During the summer term, learning PTC Creo and working on small projects, engineering changes, learning the Briggs & Stratton engine systems and shadowing an engineer and senior designer
  • During the fall and spring terms, working on more complicated designs/drawings and assisting on projects on a part-time basis

Qualifications: 

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • MUST be enrolled in an accredited technical school studying toward an associate degree in mechanical design or mechanical engineering
  • Must have good mechanical aptitude - an interest in design and/or engines is preferred
  • An interest in tool design is preferred
  • Good working knowledge of computer software
  • Must have good interpersonal and communication skills, both oral and written, to deal with diverse groups of people
  • Must have the ability and willingness to follow directions
  • Must have the ability to work in a team environment
  • Must have strong initiative to seek work and learn new concepts and ideas
  • Must be well organized
  • Fluent in English and primary language used in area of responsibility and/or location
