Position Description
Creates a variety of complex functional and appealing product designs using a combination of artistic talent with research on product use, marketing and materials.
Job Responsibilities
- Provides design expertise and leadership while collaborating with engineering, marketing, production, or sales departments, or with customers, to establish and evaluate design concepts for manufactured products
- Modifies and refines designs, using working models, to conform with customer specifications, production limitations, or changes in design trends
- Coordinates the fabrication of models or samples
- Recommends design ideas, based on factors such as appearance, safety, function, serviceability, budget, production costs/methods, and market characteristics
- Presents designs and reports to customers or design committees for approval, and discuss need for modification
- Investigates product characteristics such as the product’s safety and handling qualities, its market appeal, how efficiently it can be produced, and ways of distributing, using and maintaining it
- Researches production materials and manufacturing methods
- Leads and researches end user potential need for new products
- Performs other duties as assigned
Job Skills Requirements
- Extensive knowledge of design techniques, tools, and principles involved in production of precision technical plans, blueprints, drawing and models
- Must be able to enthusiastically assert ideas, be highly creative and able to “think out of the box”
- Possesses a working knowledge of the company’s products’ purpose
- Working knowledge of the practical application of engineering science and technology; including application of principles, techniques, procedures, and equipment to the design and production of various goods and services
- Extensive knowledge of various computer aided design software, desktop publishing software, video creation and editing software
- Fluent in English and primary language used in area of responsibility and/or location
Education
Experience Requirements
- Minimum of five years of experience in Industrial Design or related field
