Position Description

Briggs and Stratton is a leader in providing power to enable our customers to get the job done. The Advanced Electronics & Software team is responsible for developing and executing strategies for electronics, embedded software, cloud software, and end-user interface applications. 


Embedded systems architects are responsible for building flexible IoT platforms for use across multiple product lines.  As a successful candidate, you will be setting, leading, and implementing technical strategies for embedded software platforms and best practices. Working with the hardware and cloud teams you will build functional prototypes to demonstrate, test, and refine IoT integrations with various product lines. You must have the ability to demonstrate a strong working knowledge of IoT software technologies and toolchains.  

Candidates Will:
  1. Solve complex problems with a “system” thinking approach
  2. Lead the software and assist in hardware product roadmaps
  3. Develop documentation that will be used interface with the hardware platform 
  4. Design and test new technologies to enhance product offerings
  5. Assist in directing internal and external software teams
  6. Design and test device to cloud APIs
  7. Develop and maintain continuous integration workflows
  8. Design systems to optimize battery life with the understanding of potential tradeoffs. 
  9. Optimize data throughput and processing 
  10. Support product management in proposing future business solutions
Candidates Should:
  • Have a broad knowledge base of embedded firmware architecture and best practices. 
  • Understand micro and macro trends in related hardware and software products
  • Have working knowledge and the ability to develop embedded software
  • Be self-motivated with a passion to learn new things every day
  • Be able to architect and build systems with multiple end applications that share a common set of code and communication protocols
  • Understand embedded hardware (design experience is a plus)
Bachelor's Degree in Engineering or Related field
  • Real-Time Operating Systems(RTOS): Zephyr, FreeRTOS
  • Linux, Android, RaspberryPi
  • Wireless protocols: Cellular, Bluetooth, and Mesh
