Director Sales Inventory & Operations Planning

Position Description

Builds and implements a Sales, Inventory and Operations Planning (SIOP) process across a small to moderate sized  business unit to improve customer satisfaction, profitability, plant and supply chain optimization, inventory turnover and working capital.  Provides strategic direction to balance supply and demand and align volume and mix with capacity and capability. Integrates financial and operating plans with strategic objectives to deliver improved operating and financial results.

Job Responsibilities

  1. Collaborates with Sales to incorporate the demand plan across product categories and SKU’s to facilitate an effective SIOP process.

  2. Conducts rough cut capacity and scenario planning supported by data and analytics to enable accuracy and speed in decision making.

  3. Develops, monitors and revises production and sourcing plans to optimize the use of manpower, equipment, and financial resources while meeting the needs of customers and financial plans.  Presents supporting analytics in SIOP meetings.

  4. Develops support metrics for operations and procurement teams to achieve customer order fulfillment objectives while maintaining inventory levels at target. 

  5. Directs planning efforts for strategic projects, including manufacturing shut down, start up, re-sourcing, outsourcing and insourcing initiatives, to meet customer needs and financial objectives while minimizing inventory obsolescence.

  6. Works closely with Sales and Product Development on planning/executing the activation and ramp-up for new products as well as managing other product life-cycle phases.  

  7. Evaluates inventory reports to identify slow moving and obsolete inventory and work with sales on disposition plans.  Ensures all current inventory levels meet plan and working capital objectives.

  8. Identifies significant business risks and escalates to appropriate leadership teams.

  9. Supports, coaches and influences cross functional teams, including plant management, plant level buyers and corporate supply chain resources. 

  10. Directs the work of groups of employees (leads through managers and senior managers) by providing oversight, mentoring, and training.

  11. Performs other duties as assigned.

  • Data-driven, with demonstrated ability to analyze and resolve problems with strong proficiency in MS Office applications (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).

  • Fluent in English and the primary language used in area of responsibility and/or location

Education

Bachelor's Degree in Supply Chain Management or related field, or equivalent education and experience

Experience Requirements

  • Minimum of ten years progressive experience in Operation, Planning or Master Production Scheduling with experience in Operations or Supply Chain.

  • Five years of direct management experience in a consumer goods or manufacturing company, preferred

  • Knowledge and experience in MRP and ERP systems including inventory control, materials requirements planning, item master, demand planning, and advanced supply chain planning and analytics preferred

  • Knowledge in lean principles/methodologies preferred
