Position Description

Selects, negotiates, develops and maintains relationships with suppliers. Within assigned commodity establishes economic order quantities (EOQ) and shipment cadence for every component. Understands and monitors purchasing triggers and discrete purchase orders or automated vendor schedules sent to suppliers.

Job Responsibilities

  1. Evaluates broad purchasing practices, quotes and reviews cost/price and value analysis to select suppliers and review alternative suppliers

  2. Leads contract negotiations with suppliers as assigned

  3. Develops and maintains supplier relationships, including  supplier training for relevant processes and procedures

  4. Develops and manages records of purchase, price, stock and consumption, supplier/vendor specifications and catalog files

  5. Researches and evaluates the benefits of contracts, open-market purchases and outsourcing

  6. Manages the contracts for the disposal of scrap, obsolete and/or surplus materials

  7. Recommends and implements changes in processes or procedures for assigned areas

  8. Takes action to ensure master data is accurate in both the Vendor Master and supplier information records

  9. Performs some lead responsibilities which may include: training, developing negotiation strategies, act as the lead negotiator, develop commodity/material group strategies and maintain project lists to achieve cost reduction targets.

  10. Performs other duties as assigned

Job Skills Requirements

  • Comprehensive knowledge of strategic sourcing and supply strategies, purchasing function concepts and of supplier commodity processes and practices

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills for report writing, presentations and interactions with diverse groups of people inside and outside of the corporation

  • Proficiency with PC software and SAP

  • Ability to work in a team environment and build/manage business relationships

  • Strong knowledge of manufacturing processes and component applications, Statistical Process Control and other significant quality management techniques

  • Strong knowledge of basic Geometric Dimension & Tolerance (GD&T) principles

  • Fluent in English and primary language used in area of responsibility and/or location


Bachelor's Degree in Supply Chain Management or related field, or equivalent education and experience

Experience Requirements

Minimum of  five years of experience in purchasing or related field

Physical & Environmental Requirements

Domestic and/or international travel as required up to 10%
