Battery Design Engineer II

Position Description

The Battery Design Engineer II will be responsible for creating and maintaining all component CAD geometry, system level BOMs, and product requirement documentation to aid in design and optimization of the Vanguard Lithium-Ion Battery line. This position will be focused on product design and development, prototyping, production support, assembly process documentation, and design optimization for manufacturability.  Works closely with Product Engineers to develop solutions through creative thinking and product design experience. In addition, lead tooling and fixture design development to support efficient and consistent manufacturing processes ensuring product requirements are repeatedly met. Uses PLM tools to maintain product models and drawings and create and process change notices. Requires a working knowledge of Teamcenter, Creo, and SAP relationships to each other or mastery of similar CAD and PLM platforms with the willingness and ability to learn Creo and TeamCenter at an accelerated pace.

Job Responsibilities

  1. Designs complex components or tooling, subsystems and concept designs
  2. Produces and modifies complex 3D models/assemblies and details complicated component and assembly drawings
  3. Conducts and/or specifies moderately complex tests using techniques to resolve customer concerns/problems; prepares technical reports based on results
  4. Compiles and analyzes test results; formulates conclusions and makes appropriate recommendations
  5. Consistently looks for simplifying designs and assemblies, reduces costs through part design or process improvements, and standardization of components
  6. Reviews dimensional inspection of parts and approves parts for production
  7. Manages tasks to ensure successful completion of designs
  8. Performs other duties as assigned

Job Skills Requirements

  • Broad understanding of standards and applications in an engineering environment
  • Ability to calculate dimensions and specify allowances and tolerances in accord with standard practices
  • Proficient in math, including trigonometry with a thorough understanding of geometric tolerancing and gauging
  • Ability to provide input and assist in planning design timelines and project schedules, and effectively plan work to meet schedules
  • Broad knowledge of the physical properties of materials and property enhancers and the relative cost of materials
  • Strong visual acuity and design techniques to produce complete and workable 3D layouts for new designs
  • Well-developed written communication skills necessary for technical report writing
  • Fluent in English and primary language used in area of responsibility and/or location

Education

Bachelor's Degree in Engineering or Related field

Experience Requirements

  • Three years of professional engineering experience

Physical & Environmental Requirements

May require travel of a scheduled or urgent nature to review applications, discuss problems, visit suppliers / customers, trade shows, etc.
