Position Description

Performs a variety of technical assignments related to prototype construction,  and testing requiring a solid understanding of mechanical engineering and manufacturing processes. Guides and directs the work of less experienced employees and employees involved in testing.

Job Responsibilities
  1. With minimal supervision, participates in the design, development, and construction of experimental prototypes, equipment, apparatus, or system.  Constructs components of experimental apparatus or prototype models.
  2. Set-ups and performs various tests to evaluate modified or new products  or and competitive products to determine acceptable levels of performance and reliability.  Records, computes, and analyzes test data. Recommends design changes based on test results or research data.
  3. Operates and programs  numerous types of shop tools and machines typically found in a manufacturing prototype environment.  Modifies standard equipment to meet special technical requirements.
  4. Assists in review of new or existing designs, tooling, or processes for manufacturability, quality, and efficiency. Identifies deviations or variations not indicated or anticipated.
  5. May draft detail drawings or sketches for drafting room.
  6. Performs other duties as assigned
Job Skills Requirements
  • Working knowledge of various metal fabrication processes.
  • Working knowledge of various mechanical, hydraulic and electrical components and their application.
  • Analytical & creative skills involving complex mechanical systems or devices.
  • Fluent in English and primary language used in area of responsibility and/or location
Education
High School diploma
Experience Requirements
  • Previous experience in a manufacturing environment preferred.  
  • Minimum of three years previous experience and working knowledge of using shop machines such as brake press, plasma cutter, welding equipment, lathes, mills, etc. required
Physical & Environmental Requirements
Some physical demand; often lifts light weight material. Rarely lifting/moving average weight (25-50 lbs/11-27 kgs) material.
Generally good working conditions.
Ability to stand and/or walk constantly over a full work shift (8-12 hours)
Ability to perform occasional to frequent pushing, pulling, bending, kneeling, twisting, crawling and/or reaching over a full work shift (8-12 hours)
