What does a Director of Materials Management do?

 

As a Director of Materials Management you will be accountable for the supply and movement of all materials from their source to the point of use on the assembly line.  Actively plan and execute the Materials Management strategy to achieve productivity and efficiency targets while managing risk and generating cost savings to achieve the strategic goals of the business. Lead the Materials Management Group and direct the global optimization of all processes and systems within Material Handling, Purchasing, Production Control and Detailed Scheduling. Facilitate effective designs related to system and process improvements with key stakeholder functions in Production, Planning, Sourcing, IT, and Finance.

You will do this by:

  • Managing the movement of materials from the source to the point of production through a variety of methods 

  • Developing Materials Management strategy aimed at achieving predictable and efficient materials supply, improving component inventory turns and supplier delivery, minimizing production shortages and reducing excess and obsolete inventory.

  • Developing a vision and long-term strategy related to the system, process, and skills roadmap to institutionalize best practices in all aspects of materials management. 

  •  Identifying opportunities and prioritizing necessary improvements, aligning improvements across functions and taking a leadership role in implementation of improvements.   

  • Acting as the global process owner in IT forums to ensure Plan to Produce (PTP) changes are aligned, fit for purpose across functions and business units and development needs are translated to IT. 

  • Establishing and utilizing a range of Key Performance Indicators (KPI) to measure overall performances of systems, processes and people to understand what is driving performance, and is able to articulate root cause analysis.

  • Driving and influencing alignment between cross functional groups (Finance, Planning, Manufacturing, Sourcing, etc.).

  • Establishing effective training to ensure new functionality and/or process improvements are implemented.

  • Performing full range of managerial responsibilities which may include but not be limited to: interviewing, hiring, coaching and developing employees; planning, assigning and directing work; EEO/AA; performance management; department budget.

  • Performing other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Business, Engineering or a related field

  • Minimum of 15 years’ experience within Materials Management, Production and Inventory Control or Supply Chain Management

  • Experience with Continuous Improvement methodologies (such as Lean Six Sigma) and leading teams to complete projects

  • Experience setting negotiating strategy with appropriate tactics  

  • Experience utilizing financial metrics and knowledge of business cost structure to support making decisions

  • Must be able to work from the Sherrill, NY office

Preferred Qualifications:

  • SAP ECC and SAP S4 HANA experience 

  • BW/BI, EDI, Logility, and DOMO experience

Physical & Environmental Requirements

Domestic and/or international travel as required up to 20%
Able to sit frequently.
