Product Safety and Compliance Engineer

Short Description

Employed within the Corporate Legal department and reporting to the Senior Product Compliance manager located in Roermond, we are looking for a motivated and experienced Product Safety and Compliance Engineer.

Position Description

Plans and performs a variety of moderately complex engineering assignments to promote the safe and compliant use of products; ensures compliance with government standards and adoption of industry standards.  Ensures products have been reviewed, tested and assessed against compliance with European legislation, international standards, product compliance,  emission regulations, and/or product safety best practices. Evaluates progress and results of projects. Recommends changes in design, procedures or objectives as necessary.  

Job Responsibilities

  1. Performs regulatory reviews during design and prior to production to ensure compliance with applicable regulations and standards,  and monitors emission performance of existing products compared to regulatory standards
  2. Reviews and certifies power equipment to meet relevant legislation, standards and/or regional requirements (e.g. MEA region) in collaboration with testing laboratories.
  3. Participates in the industry association work to monitor EU regulatory changes and development of standards (e.g. NEN, CEN, ISO).
  4. Reviews and integrates messages and content in label design, communication reviews, technical publications, marketing displays and operating manuals
  5. Provides guidance based upon research of  global compliance standards and regulations and reports findings
  6. Participates in the development of standards and recommends changes as necessary
  7. Performs product incident investigations and/or emission audit reviews
  8. Certifies engines and equipment to meet relevant standards, and completes routine compliance reports to government agencies
  9. Assists in the development of strategies and risk assessments to meet compliance standards and regulations
  10. Performs other duties as assigned

Job Skills Requirements

  • Fundamental knowledge of regulations and industry standards
  • Familiarity with the design, control and incorporation of compliance strategies
  • Fundamental knowledge of outdoor power equipment
  • Strong planning, organizational, problem solving and decision making skills
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Fluent in English and primary language used in area of responsibility and/or location

Education

Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering or Electrical Engineering

Experience Requirements

  • Minimum of three years of experience in a related field preferred

Physical & Environmental Requirements

May require travel of a scheduled or urgent nature to review applications, discuss problems, visit suppliers / customers, trade shows, etc.
