Position Description
Uses basic technical knowledge to troubleshoot and repair plant production equipment. Performs duties associated with the setup of a variety of production equipment to produce quality product.
Job Responsibilities
- Tooling Specialization: Focuses exclusively on the troubleshooting and repair of stamping and casting dies to ensure production quality.
- Machinist Equipment Operation: Learns to set up and operate manual and/or CNC machine shop equipment (such as mills, lathes, and grinders) to fabricate or modify die parts.
- Curriculum Completion: Actively participates in and completes the Tooling U-SME training curriculum, focusing on modules related to die design, materials, and machining.
- On-the-Job Training: Works under the guidance of Mentors and Engineers to perform precision bench work, including sharpening, shimming, and timing of die components.
- Safety & Quality: Maintains strict adherence to safety and quality requirements, ensuring all die adjustments bring parts into exact specifications.
- Collaboration: Works closely with die designers and engineers to resolve complex tooling issues and improve die performance.
- Progress Documentation: Maintains meticulous records of training hours and competency sign-offs to meet mandated wage progression milestones.
Job Skills Requirements
- Mechanical Aptitude: Must successfully pass a standardized mechanical aptitude test prior to entry.

Machining Interest: A strong desire to develop precision machining skills and an understanding of tool steel properties.

Foundational Knowledge: Basic understanding of tooling practices and the ability to interpret technical drawings or blueprints.

Soft Skills: Excellent teamwork and communication skills to effectively learn from assigned mentors.

Education
Experience Requirements
No prior machining experience required, but candidates must demonstrate a high mechanical aptitude and a commitment to a multi-year learning path.
