Briggs & Stratton / Billy Goat, located in Lee's Summit, Missouri, is a leading and innovative manufacturer of outdoor power equipment. We specialize in the design and manufacture of machines in three product groups: Debris Management (vacuums, blowers, and debris loaders), Lawn Renovation, and Brush Cutters. We have an immediate opening for a full time Technician to support our product engineering team.

Position Description

Fabricates components for outdoor power equipment engineering prototypes. Calibrates, sets-up and uses sophisticated and or specialized measurement and test equipment. Measures and records data for assigned projects with engineering input. Performs and oversees the performance of a variety of technical assignments related to prototype construction and testing, requiring a solid understanding of mechanical systems and manufacturing processes. Opportunity to lead other technicians through identifying and prioritizing work, assigning work load and providing input on performance assessment of work.

Job Responsibilities

  1. Fabricates prototype components and/or assemblies for product testing.
  2. Operates and programs numerous types of shop tools and machines typically found in a manufacturing prototype environment such as brake press, plasma cutter, welding equipment, lathe, mill, etc.
  3. Recognizing, analyzing and troubleshooting problems and recommends solutions; expedites prototype parts or assemblies.
  4. Performs a variety of non-routine assignments of moderate complexity, including various tests using sophisticated and/or specialized measurement devices and test equipment.
  5. Develops, prepares and makes recommendations for schematics, designs, test procedures and/or specifications.
  6. Ensures appropriate training of other technicians to equip them for work to be assigned.
  7. Assigns and evaluates work of other technicians.
  8. With minimal guidance, participates in the design, development and construction of experimental prototypes, equipment, apparatus or system. Oversees the construction of components of experimental apparatus or prototype models.
  9. Modifies standard equipment to meet special technical requirements.
  10. Documents required aspects of tests including objectives, procedures, results, conclusions and recommendations.
  11. Performs other duties as assigned.

Job Skills Requirements

● Strong working knowledge of different fabrication techniques used in a manufacturing environment.

● Strong working knowledge of various mechanical, hydraulic and electrical components and their application.

● Analytical and creative skills involving complex mechanical systems or devices.

● Ability to set-up, calibrate and use sophisticated and or specialized measurement devices and test equipment.

● Strong interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills.

● Ability to interpret data and create technical documents.

● Fluent in English and primary language used in area of responsibility and/or location.

Education

Associates Degree in Technical Field or related field, or equivalent education and experience

Experience Requirements

● Previous experience in a manufacturing environment preferred.

● Five years of experience working with small/large engines, engine powered equipment or industry related products and manufacturing methods.

● Previous experience working with fabrication machinery such as brake press, CNC Plasma table, handheld plasma cutter, various welding equipment / techniques, lathe, mill, etc. Required.

● Working knowledge of using a fork lift and/or industrial power truck.

Physical & Environmental Requirements

Ability to stand and/or walk constantly over a full work shift (8-12 hours)
Ability to perform occasional to frequent pushing, pulling, bending, kneeling, twisting, crawling and/or reaching over a full work shift (8-12 hours)
Ability to lift 50-pound
