Counsel - Global Trade Compliance

Position Description

As Counsel - Global Trade Compliance, you will provide legal services and advice to the Company regarding global trade compliance, anti-bribery, anti-corruption, Foreign Corrupt Practices Act, trade sanctions, tariffs, import/export regulations and related areas.

Job Responsibilities

  1. Provides legal review of and advice regarding various Company agreements and other documents, 
  2. Reviews and evaluates new and existing customers, suppliers, dealers and distributors to maintain global trade compliance standards
  3. Manages the protection and enforcement of legal rights in respect of Company assets, including development of related documentation and filings
  4. Manages investigation and oversees litigation matters in assigned areas of responsibility, including the engagement and oversight of outside counsel
  5. Leads or supports, as needed, meetings of internal committees related to assigned areas of responsibility
  6. Acts as a legal resource to various internal departments as needed (e.g., provides compliance supports for acquisitions and related integration)
  7. Develops and provides global compliance training to employees in the businesses
  8. Develops relevant Legal Department processes and practices relating to assigned areas of responsibility
  9. Performs other duties as assigned

Job Skills Requirements

  • Demonstrated knowledge and ability to provide prompt, practical counsel and creative solutions in all areas of responsibility while evaluating  risk
  • Ability to identify changes in law and oversee compliance, propose guideline and practice changes, and effectively educate and train internal clients
  • Excellent written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills
  • Strong business acumen and strategic thinking capabilities
  • Detail-oriented, organized, responsive to client needs
  • Proven capability to balance a variety of high priority projects simultaneously
  • Solid computer skills including extensive knowledge of specialized software related to assigned areas of responsibility
  • Fluent in English and primary language used in area of responsibility and/or location

Education

  • Juris Doctor from a law school accredited by the American Bar Association

Experience Requirements

  • Minimum five years of experience as a trade compliance attorney (or equivalent substitute experience) in a firm or corporate setting required
