Position Description

As a Commodity Manager, you will drive strategic projects and initiatives for the Direct Sourcing Center of Excellence. This position will also develop long term optimization of the supply base for our commercial engine platform that recently relocated from Japan to the USA. Lastly, you will explore which parts should be on-shored to North America, working closely with Commodity Managers, Plant Purchasing, International Sourcing, and Engineering team members.

Job Responsibilities

  1. Performs landed cost evaluation and business case on opportunities to onshore considering piece price, logistics, warehousing, carrying cost, cost of quality, flexibility to meet customer demand, capital / tooling costs
  2. Explores Mexico and USA sourcing opportunities vs historical Far East sourcing in China, Japan and Southeast Asia for AV2 components
  3. Partners with Commodity Managers and Plant Purchasing Managers to understand supplier commodity strategies and opportunities / prioritization of resourcing of existing AV2 supply base
  4. Partners with Engineering team to develop and bundle test plans, resources, funding to support supplier localization efforts 
  5. Explores opportunities to optimize pricing, logistics, operations within existing China and Japan supply bases for AV2 and supply chain ordering / flow of parts to the USA
  6. Negotiates, writes and verifies legal issues of supply agreements
  7. Recommends and implements changes in processes or procedures for assigned areas
  8. Provides high-level interface between suppliers and internal customers to resolve any issues and provides problem escalation or resolution
  9. Performs other strategic initiatives for Direct Sourcing Center of Excellence as assigned

  • Ability to solve issues through critical and creative thinking
  • Organized, flexible and easily adaptable to changing conditions; ability to adapt to different cultures and effective lead project teams in different continents
  • Demonstrated sourcing success in an extended enterprise environment or must possess knowledge and experience from another function, which would enhance the background diversity of the Supply Chain and cross-functional project team
  • Ability to work well in high pressure situations in order to meet deadlines
  • Ability to manage and motivate suppliers and key constituent groups
  • Highly developed analytical and communication skills
  • Fluent in English and primary language used in area of responsibility and/or location


  • Bachelor's Degree in Supply Chain Management or related field, or equivalent education and experience

Experience Requirements

  • Minimum of seven years of progressively responsible experience in sourcing, supply chain, engineering or related field in a high volume manufacturing environment
  • Some International sourcing experience, preferably in China, Japan, or Mexico

Physical & Environmental Requirements

  • Domestic and/or International travel as required up to 30%
