Position Description
Performs engineering tasks under minimal guidance that are varied and complex which require troubleshooting and interpretation of data, development of new test methods or procedures and are used for a variety of situations. Plans, executes, and organizes detailed design development as part of major projects of significant scope.
Job Responsibilities
- Responsibile for designing cost reductions on existing products and managing projects through to implementation
- Works closely with manufacturing engineering and operations to identify opportunities to improve ease of manufacturability
- Wors closely with purchasing to identify lower-cost purchased goods that may require design changes to the product to incorporate
- Responsible for managing the timelines and costs of each project with weekly reporting to their supervisor
- Responsible to prototype new designs, create a test plan for validating the designs, and testing
- Expected to be able to build their own prototype and perform their own testing when needed
- Conducts and/or specifies complex tests using advanced techniques to resolve customer concerns/problems; prepares technical reports based on results
- Applies advanced computer-aided engineering analysis techniques to resolve customer concerns/problems
- Adheres to new product development processes as it relates to concept analysis, business case, product development, pre-production and post launch steps; recommends methods of manufacture during the design of new products and design modifications or process changes based on cost/design studies
- Modifies analysis techniques when necessary to solve more complex problems
- Evaluates product failures using advanced engineering techniques
- Compiles and analyzes test results; formulates conclusions and makes appropriate recommendations
- Partners with project management, business units, manufacturing, quality, supply chain, etc.
- Recommends improvements and/or modifications for sequence of operations, equipment utilization and related matters
- Develops engineering test standards where applicable
- Performs other duties as assigned
Job Skills Requirements
- Comprehensive knowledge of engineering concepts, practices, and procedures, and other internal engineering standards and systems
- Experience in SolidWorks for CAD experience is a plus, although not required
- Strong knowledge of engineering systems
- Strong knowledge of company and competitor’s products and technical abilities of suppliers
- Well-developed understanding of company processes and procedures including, but not limited to the new product development process
- Excellent interpersonal skills
- Strong written communication skills necessary for technical report writing
- Fluent in English and primary language used in the area of responsibility and/or location
Education
Experience Requirements
- Five years of professional engineering experience
